Student Incentives
While elaborate programs and presentations are great for keeping students interested and on-track to become Texas Scholars, simple, inexpensive recognition throughout the school year can be effective as well.
-
Texas Scholars t-shirts, folders, book covers, bumper stickers, pens and pencils all keep the program highly visible among students..
-
Schools post a "Wall of Fame" listing students aspiring to become Texas Scholars.
-
Special assemblies can be organized to encourage students in their efforts..
-
Garland and Alvin ISDs hit the incentive jackpot when they began reserving prime parking spaces for Texas Scholars..
-
Garland ISD offers Texas Scholars discounted or free admission to all school events.
-
Members of the business community send messages of encouragement to students.
-
Identify students as Texas Scholars on school badges or identification cards.
The possibilities are endless and don't have to be expensive. Be creative. Interview a focus group of students to determine what really motivates them. Involve the business community and higher education wherever possible so that students are reminded their efforts will pay dividends in the future.
